Bye-Bye!

This morning, we woke up two very tired boys. Many, many late curtain calls had made it difficult for them to fall asleep last night, and they were totally unprepared for the 7:30 am wake-up call.

Groggy C boy and grumpy B boy ate their breakfast in silence. They dressed slooooowwwlllyy, and then sat on the couch rubbing their eyes and staring blankly out into space.

I had to help them put their outerwear on - snowpants, heavy jackets, hats, gloves. Everything zipped up. Big winter boots on. School bag - check. Lunch - check. Drink - check. The boys themselves stood there like zombies on cruise control.

After encouraging hugs and motherly statements about how fun it would be to see their school friends again after the holidays, they were ushered out into a dark, snowy Norwegian winter morning. I even waved supportively from the window until they disappeared behind the garage and I could no longer see them.

But then...

I snuck back into bed and slept for another hour.

School RULES!

Heidi! LOL, you rock!

There's something almost giddy about that first day of school, isn't there? I can remember that first day in September, knowing both my husband and my kids would finally, after two long months, be out of my hair. I could barely stand the seconds as they stretched by.

Sigh. I miss that.

Here in Australia, it's summer, so our kids are on their VERY long school break and still have another three weeks to go!!!

Hooray!

You mean someday I might be able to rest? Even for a tiny bit of time?

Yes - the same thing happened in our house this morning. Little Billy came to the side of my bed last night at about 11:00 whining that he couldn't go to sleep. Well ... of course he wasn't tired - he didn't get up until 11:30 or so every single day they were home. I should have worked on getting them back on that schedule - I always say I am going to do that. I hope you enjoyed your day - I know I did. See you later, Heidi.

HA - I love it. Hey, we moms pay our dues - enjoy your sleep time when you can grab it.

Oh, you have to be the best mother EVER! That is totally something I would do. I mean, that's why we grew up, right? So we could DO THAT. Go Heidi!

Ha, ha, you do rock!!! I sure wish I could have snuck back for another hour this morning! I would have had to drag my sqwigglies with me though. Yay to a little mommy time :)

BubTar was home today, sick, of course. No school day break for me!

Yeah, and I'll bet you did the Happy Dance all the way back to the bed, didn't you? HAHAHA! The only thing better than the kids getting out of school for a holiday is the kids going back to school after the holiday. I think that is universal for all Moms! I'll bet they even fall right asleep tonight...

Ha! I can't *wait* for the day when I can usher my kids onto the school bus, and then crawl back into bed! You rock!!

I had similar big plans this morning but was foiled by the Baby and her hatred of all things sleep-related. SO much for that!

I'm another homeschooling mom who is quite jealous. I would definitely do the same thing, given the chance. I sometimes steal a little nap in the afternoon when my daughter has her quiet reading time.

Victoria said...

LOL! Can you see me, completely jealous?? =)

Haha!! Couldn't ask for a better ending to this post! Oh, and I am also green with envy. *sigh* my day is coming.....just not for another, like...ummmm, 6 years or so.

Oh, I am so jealous. But your secret is safe with us.

I am 100% in agreement with that. I only wish I had known the V-meister was due back last week.

Ooops.

Ha! I had the exact same experience this morning here in Illinois, only our snow melted with the rain this weekend. Bummer. Horray for back to school day!

Because I couldn't tone down the maniacal joy and sarcasm...I didn't thank life, school and everything for BEING OPEN AGAIN TODAY woo hoo!

Isn't it GRAND!!

Good for you! All parents are actually owed quite large chunks of sleep in repayment for the first year of each child's life.

I was hoping to be able to nap tomorrow morning when babyboy naps because both girls will finally be back at school. But it's my day to be parent helper at preschool. Sigh. I'll have to celebrate on Wednesday with a morning nap.

Glad I am not the only one who tries to sneak in those extra zzz's! My 4 year old was way too quiet, so we went on a house hunt for her. She put her pj's on and put herself in bed...at 5pm!!

We're back to school today (back to work for me yesterday). I understand those bleary-eyes. It felt like we were off for longer than 2 weeks. In fact I said something about it being the last day of summer vacation....

Kat said...

Oh poor boys. After an amazing break of skiing and fun it must be torture to head back to school. Poor little zombies.
And don't worry, I won't let the boys know you crawled back into bed. Sneaky woman!

Badness Jones said...

Yay you! I was soooo happy when the Princess went back to school this morning. And Bad went to the sitter's.....I have work to do, but there's no one pulling on my leg, or calling my name....bliss!

Sounds like heaven right now. We are in the midst of a long day of home school. BUT all in all it is going pretty well, so I will just be thankful. And I got to sleep in a bit after the 4 year old got up.

I am laughing my butt off at you right now!
It's what we're all doing cuz I homeschool and it's dark so no one wakes up until almost 8, well the 3 year old does but she seems to fend well for herself for a half hour:)

carrie said...

That is exactly what I did on the first day of school back in September!

We were seperated at birth, I just know it! :)

Gina said...

It does, doesn't it? I couldn't wait for mine to go back, either. Especially since he was sick two weeks before vacation as it was.

MQ has been in school for 3 days now(should have been 5, if not for the darn broken heater!) and this is the FIRST that I had even a portion of that time to myself. oh glorious day.

Lisa said...

That is, (I my humble opinion) the bestest perk about staying home -- being able to take a nap if you need to! heehee. (Well, that and being there when they board the bus and get home from school.)

You are living the dream, honey!

That is something I have said I was going to do for the past 5 years- but never have.

I dream of that day when all the kids can be shipped out for a few hours.

Hahahaha! You're still way nicer than me, though! This morning I DROVE my son the one block to school and dropped him off saying, "Have a good day, love you, blah, blah, blah. Now get out of the car."

Thank God for school!
