Outrage!

Did you read this?

Obviously, this report is too short and one-sided to tell the entire story. But if there is even an ounce of truth to it - well, colour me shocked and appalled. As a mother of a child who doesn't always fit the norm, this is truly my worst nightmare.

Holy smokes, people!

Utterly ridiculous! If the report is true, the teacher needs to lose her job.

I couldn't get the link, but I suspect I read about this one and was just blown away. Cannot imagine.

The thing that got me was some of the comments on this whole incident on some internet boards. Some people actually applauded the teacher's action and those of the school. What??!!!! THAT to me was even scarier!

That is nuts. This teacher, she should most definitely lose her job.

This report MUST be wrong?! Surely that could never happen?!?!?

Mary Beth said...

Oh that's just terrible! Maybe we should allow the vindictive 5 year olds to vote on what teachers get to keep their jobs too? I have to wonder at some people!!! However, I'd love to have the two who were strong enough to vote for him to stay.

This is so heartbreaking. Five years old, and an event like this...the poor child will probably never forget it.

What the hell is the matter with people? This makes me so freaking mad!

It's absolutely true. I wrote about it somewhere, with multiple links to updates.

Anyway Annie at Moms Speak Up did a FABULOUS article about it from the POV of a teacher.

Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/659cr9

Lots of comments to it too.

That is just...heartbreaking. I'm sitting here crying for that little boy, I can't imagine a teacher telling students to tell another student what they don't like about him.

I hope something happens with that teacher. And I hope someone talks to those kids about why that wasn't a nice thing to do..

I don't care if that child was a challenge or not ~ it is absolutely abhorable to treat a child like that. It's hard enough to be a kid without people "voting" you out of a classroom and a teacher bullying you. And at 5 years old? I would say this is emotional abuse that deserves jail time... a teacher should know better!

I heard about that a while ago--totally outrageous. She certainly shouldn't be a teacher.

I had heard about this; absolutely horrifying. And sad. And oh so wrong.

The teacher should be sacked.

Awful! I'd file a law suit too!

Hope you are doing good - have a good weekend - Kellan

That is so sad. What would a teacher be thinking. Whether he has problems or not... lashing out and causing a sense or not.... that is NOT a way to handle it. That teacher may a poor stupid decision. Hopefully there is more to this story and we are missing some facts, hopefully that teacher isn't THAT mean and stupid.

I had heard about this before - but just now read about it & watched the video with Max. He was astounded. So thanks for giving me this teaching opportunity!

Good Lord!! Are you freaking kidding me?!?!
I was a teacher in So.Texas for 5 years and always had special needs kids in my class....the very idea that a teacher would take it upon herself AND the class to "vote someone out" is utterly unbelievable. The legal channels and hoops that teachers must go through are so tight and I find it amazing that this teacher was so incredibly stupid.
Yes, maybe the boy didn't belong in a regular classroom for the whole time, but it was not her decision to make.
I would like to know what has happened to this teacher, because in Texas, she would have been fired!!
And I thought bad things happened in classrooms here....what we got is NOTHING compared to that!!

I can't imagine anything much more wicked. What a cruel woman. Poor little guy.

I had heard about this too, and was outraged. I'm even more outraged that the teacher wasn't fired immediately.

I did read this and as far as I am concerned tar and feathering is too good for that teacher!

Oh, I KNOW. Horrible, isn't it?

Welcome back to North America! It must be strange to be done with Europe. For now, at least... I have a feeling that your adventures aren't over just yet...

:)

Love the new kitchen plan.

This just breaks my heart. I feel so sad for Alex but also the other kids in his class who had to tell what they didn't like and then vote.

So sad for everyone involved.

And the fact that the teacher doesn't think she did anything wrong?? That woman needs help!

Oh my gosh, Heidi, I heard about this! And I fear that it is true. The radio show I listen to at work every morning had a pretty in-depth report about it, and filled in lots of details that just couldn't possibly have been made up. Then, when I clicked on your link to read the story? Well, like I said, I had already heard the story and then some. But I scrolled down and read some of the comments people had left about the story. Heaven help us. No wonder there are times I just want to stay in my house with the doors locked and the blinds pulled. Actually, I wish it was as simple as this teacher "needing help." The thing is, I don't think there is help for people like that. There are some things you just can't teach people. Those people are called sociopaths, and it seems there are a lot of them out there. Unfortunately, they appear to be just fine until something like this (or even worse) happens. I think this is absolutely heartbreaking, and I cannot even imagine having the kind of mind that would think up something like that. Ugh...

Wow. I had not heard about that until now and am just stunned.

WRONG WRONG WRONG

I have found an online link to petition for the termination of his teacher (more like monster) who did this to him.

I am appalled.

Two kids didn't vote him out. Wouldn't you love to meet them?

I heard about this on the news and was shocked and horrified. I feel so sad for the little boy, whose feelings must have surely been hurt.

sadly true. i wrote an outraged letter to the principal.

Amy said...

I can't even imagine this - its awful. Why would someone want to hurt a child?

Kyla said...

It is SO outrageous. And the thing that kills me is the teacher is being very upfront about what she did...like she STILL thinks she was right! He's a KINDERGARTENER for goodness sakes. Typically developing or not, it is TERRIBLE. I'd ring someone's neck if it was my child.

Steph said...

Yikes! That is outrageous! How horrible and sad.

As a teacher, I can tell you there is ALWAYS two sides to every story. As a mom, I can tell you that kids will say just about ANYTHING. However, if this is true....the teacher should be ashamed of herself AND lose her job!

LoriD said...

What kind of person would do this to a child? What are those children learning about acceptance and tolerance? I share your outrage.

I read about this and it's horrifying. It makes a strong case for home schooling when this is the teaching standard.
