Oops

Monday mornings are always rough, but none more so than when the patient parent is far, far away in Canada, and the morning-challenged parent is left completely to her own devices.

Thus, I'm happy to report that this morning was surprisingly easy chez Viking Conquest. The boys were awesome at getting up, getting themselves dressed and sitting down to breakfast.

Meanwhile, I was groggily trying to assemble something remotely resembling a nutritious lunch for them (even though the muffins left over from last night's Advent celebrations were staring at me, daring me to pop them into each boys' lunch bag and call it a lunch.)

Anyhoo...

There I was, so focused on the task at hand, I didn't even realize I was softly singing to myself...until I heard my crazy 7-year-old loudly join in:

I'm not here for your entertainment
You don't really want to mess with me tonight

That's right. Pink. And while I like that song, it's not really...ehem...appropriate sing-along-material for 7 year olds. Or even oh-so-mature 10 year olds.

Keep your drink just give me the money
It's just you and your hand tonight

I guess I'll be changing my workout tunes today.

I think the MOTHER OF THE YEAR committee is looking for you! Songs about masturbation rank right up there in "MOMMY POINTS" as say the Itsy Bitsy Spider and The Alphabet Song!!

I am so lame that I'd never heard that song before. It rocks though!

Note to self: get new music.

Sigh.

HA! I love that song too. I'm also a big Eminem fan so I'm going to be in real trouble when Graham gets older!

wow.

and I know what you mean about being morning challenged!

Yes, from another morning-challenged person who is also a little music-challenged--since the video expired, I had to go to amazon.com to check out the song. Great work-out song,if I were inclined to do such a thing as work out. Which I'm not. Perish the thought. But I digress...

I'm thinking the littlest guy does not "whereof he sings"??? I even have hope that maybe Christopher doesn't even know. But I may be hopelessly out-of-date. I'd like to be supportive here but, really, if the MOTHER OF THE YEAR Committee gets in touch with me? I'm afraid I'm going to have to be truthful (hikes self-righteous nose a little higher in the air). HAHAHAHA!

If only that was the worst thing they'll be exposed to, huh? :)

I read this post before I left the house this morning. Then, I heard this song on the radio while I was driving my daughter to preschool. I had to change the channel because of your cautionary tale! (I love that song, too...)

That was funny, Heidi! My Alexis is always singing along to lots of songs that her older sisters listen too - she knows all the words and sometimes the lyrics are a bit ... wrong to hear coming from a six year old.

Hope you had a good weekend - mine was crazy busy and so today I am slowing down and doing as little as possible (if you can count putting up yet another tree - Alexis keeps begging me - slowing down). Have a good day. See ya. Kellan

New one to me too! I'll bear it in mind for the future.

No way - I just realized I was singing the wrong words all this time.

Noooow I get it ;)

*giggling* at Jen M's comment!

First Madonna (remember my girlie asked what a Birgin was?), now Pink. We're losing all kinds of good music due to these kids, darn it. Next I'll have to give up Justin, Kanye and Fergie. Bleck.

=)

I LOVE that song! It's a great work-out song.

Don't feel so bad. My five-year-old daughter walks around the house singing "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani. I am so going to hell.

Badness Jones said...

I like that song too....don't feel bad. My three year old came out with "It's raining men, hallelujah, it's raining men, hey hey...." at Montessori once.

hehe oops indeed! ;)

I've made a similar slip up with that song...and I always have an internal debate on whether I should change the channel or not when it comes on (I never do...)

I am constantly singing to the radio in the car only to get half way through a song and remember what it is about. I quickly change the station and hope my kids didn't hear or understand anything.

I LOVE that song. I started humming along with you.

Hey, whatever gets you through the day is alright by me.... hehehe

Don't you just love those moments?

I realized I had been listening to the Chicago movie soundtrack too often when my oldest, who was three at the time, started singing along to the song where all the women sing about how they offed their husbands. From the back seat I heard:

He had it tummin
He had it tummin
He had it tummin all awong.

I just knew her evangelical Southern Baptist grandmother would have a heart attack. My mother, on the other hand, thought it was hysterical.

Thank goodness I have headphones or I'd have some foul-mouthed little kids....

Glad it went well, anyway, though!

Ah yes. I have found myself doing that MANY times. It is completely fascinating to me what a 2 and 4 year old can pick up. I really have to start being more careful.
Good job on a successful morning!

What a funny story. I can't wait to get home and watch the video. I'm at at school now on my lunch break and I'm thinking Pink might not go over so well.

Oh! Morning challenged parent here too! I have quite a few songs on my ipod that have to be hastily fast-forwarded, such as Justin's Sexyback and Gwen's Hollaback Girl. Probably just as well I don't sing in the morning....

Aliki2006 said...

"I'm not here for your entertainment"--LOL!!! I have to watch what we play, too--both kids like to sing.

Maddy said...

Oh dear yes, certainly time for a shuffle of the ipod!

I hear ya!
When Fiona was seven her favorite song was 'I love this bar, it's my kind of place, just walking thru the front door puts a big smile on my face.'
I may have really like that song at the time. Maybe I was wishing I was a bar.
I am actually working out to JT's Bringing Sexy Back right now and I caught Gracie shaking her little behind right in tune with the music this morning!

Because I am indeed, bringing sexy back you know.

What is worse:
1) Child singing popular adult music
2) Grown woman signing to toddler CD track in the car, all alone???

Rock on!

MamaGeek @ Works For Us said...

Now THAT is funny. Hopefully she has no clue what the lyrics are referring to.

Thank Gawd you don't have any hip-hop on your playlist.

That is a great workout song! but, yeah, probably not the best breakfast with the kids song;)
I am feeling your parenting alone pain. My dh finally comes home tomorrow. Hope your's is home soon:)

Oh my. Yes, I would change it, too! I've not heard it before either, Pink is cool but not so much to my taste.

It's okay, my daughter keeps running aroung the house singing "bow chicka bow bow".

Where did that come from, I ask? Certainly not me.

Barrie said...

If you heard what's on the exercise playlist on my ipod...I would so not win mother of the year!

MadMad said...

I had to go listen to the song first. That is how LAME I am. (Still have ABBA going around in MY head...)

Candy said...

Oooh I do so love me some Heidi. That's a great song! And yes, totally inappropriate, but that only makes it funner!

My kids and I used to sing Usher's "Yeah!" all the time. It's really not bad until you get to Ludacris's part. I used to hope they didn't know what it meant, until they explained one of the lines to me!

Lainey-Paney said...

...i didn't even know all of the lyrics to that song until you posted those...

I find myself humming kid's tunes now. I guess I've officially after 12 years of parenting crossed over lol. Good for you, still holding onto the adult world!

Oh and I'm the morning challenged too so tomorrow should be interesting at our house (I'm solo parenting as well -weeeeeee!)

Sounds like you're doing great!

Hey Heidi - hope you are having a good day. See you later, Kellan

Yeah! Families should sing together more often even if the songs are a bit risque. When I was little my mom and I sang that old Rod Stewart song that went.."if you want my body, and you think I'm sexy" about a one night stand. Good times.

Excuse me while I wipe the soda off the screen that just came flying out of my nose.....
I found my 5 year old singing "My Humps" by the Blackeyed Peas a few months ago.....I found it rather amusing since he is the one so "fond" of breasts....

Heidi said...

That is funny, I often wonder and worry what my kids might be singing to themselves at school. T walked into preschool singing "I wanna be tomatoed", fortunately, instead of "I wanna be sedated".

familymclean said...

Wow, I am so out of the loop! All I ever listen is kiddy sing along stuff....there is still adult recordings out there?! I need to get out!

Gina said...

I'm the morning challenged person in my partnership too.. I'm not grumpy after I have a few sips of coffee but it's Bob's job to make the coffee, then get into the shower (and out of my way) while I slowly come back to life. This week he has been gone too.. trapped in the frozen midwest.. and I've had to make my own coffee and get the kids up. I can't wait for him to get home!

I exposed my 3 yr old son to a CD by a local band a few weeks ago. His favorite song goes "Can I get some booty? Can I see your sweetness? Can we get down on the floor?" This is now his favorite song, go figure. It's great when he sings it in Kroger and little old ladies give me admonishing looks.
