Packing Up!

No, we are not returning to Canada just yet.

Next week is fall break for the boys [c'mon altogether now: I LOVE Norwegian school], so we are packing our bags and heading south...

... to Cyprus!!

One final airing out of shorts, tees and swimsuits before we pack away our summer clothes for good.

I've never been to Cyprus, but you can't get much further south in Europe, so we should be guaranteed good weather and warm ocean water. Which is a nice thought now that we are starting to wake up to temperatures in the low single digits here in Norway.

Today I'm doing laundry, counting socks, underwear, swim stuff - the usual when travelling with kids.

And discussing with Mike the pros and cons of bringing just hand luggage. His idea. Of course, I see the benefits of travelling light, especially when we have a very short layover in Vienna, thus increasing the chance of lost luggage. With our luck, that chance is exceptionally high to begin with.

He stole this idea from friends of ours, who managed to travel to Italy for a 10 day holiday with only carry-ons. [You know who you are! Look what you've started!] And he feels very strongly that if they can do it, so can we.

I'm sure we can, but I just hate the idea that I can't bring all the stuff I want to, just because we have to squeeze into four rolling Samsonite carry-ons! And the thought of doing laundry daily on holiday is also not thrilling me to bits.

Because I won't have time to do laundry, as I'm going to be extremely busy lounging next to our villa's private pool. Not to mention catching up with my fabulous in-laws, who are spending this holiday with us.

Good luck with the packing. If you can pull it off, I'm sure it will make your trip a lot less stressful. And just think - you wouldn't have to do ten loads of laundry upon your return, something I always dread.

Have a wonderful time. The boys need a break, they started school so early. They only thing you need to pack is sun block; anything else that dosen't fit in the carry on you can just buy and leave there. That's my new attitude. Enjoy the sun and the beach.

Oh man... I SO hate packing! And the idea of just packing up the stuff into carry ons is actually stressing *me* out! Kudos to you if you do it!!

oh man, I'm so envious! Cyprus just has to be so lovely - I'll be expecting to see some photos.

And how much stuff do you need if you're lounging by the pool all day? A swimsuit and cover-up, a hat, some flip-flops :) Sounds wonderful!

Good luck with the packing / traveling! And have a great time. Wish we had a fall-break.

That sounds so like fun and relaxing. I expect to see many photos as I will be vacationing vicariously through you.
We have been having summer weather here in VT and even went swimming yesterday. Very strange.

Fall break - lucky you! That is smart about the carry-ons, good thing you're going somewhere warm. At least it's mostly boys you're packing for. If it were us, the girls' bags would have to be checked. I cannot pack lightly; just not part of my DNA.
Have loads of fun at the villa. I look forward to the pix!

Only carry on bags...you guys are being very cautious. I guess you did have that awful experience in Italy. Are you carrying only carry on bags for Spain too? Just hearing about your vacations to Prague and now Cyprus is making me want to go away. I look forward to your next blog.

we tried to do the carry-on only thing for a recent 12 day family trip to the West Indies, with layovers in two states and two countries it was a sure deal we'd lose something- problem was finding anything small enough to fit in a bin on the smaller island hopper planes, and the commuters. I took my tape measure to every store, and finally had to check it in-- it got to Puerto Rico on a flight we didn't, and that's a whole different story. Hope your travel goes smoothly.
