Part I
I got a card in the mail from one of my closest friends. She's in Canada, and she sent the card to me for no reason, other than to say that she was thinking of me while we're away.
In a world of emails and text messages, it was so unexpected and lovely that she took the time to write and send me a card the old fashioned way.
It put a smile on my face.
Part II
Today was a ski day at school, and Christopher came home happy, despite being soaked to the bone by the raging blizzard outside. After a warm shower, he asked to make brownies.
Benjamin then took it upon himself to call my parents and invite them over for a cup of coffee. Soon we were all gathered in the dining room, looking out at the rapidly falling snow, with steaming hot cups of tea and brownies still warm from the oven. If there's a better way to spend a Friday afternoon, I don't know it...
Part III
We are free this weekend. There's no birthday parties on the agenda, or dinner commitments. No places we have to go, or people we have to see. Tomorrow we'll wake up and take a look at the day. Get a feel for its opportunities...and grab them.
Happy Weekend!

What a great day. Really. I will have to send a friend a handwritten card soon... you're right, that personal touch in a cold world is so nice.
And the boys with their brownies and cocoa and calling g-parents. Wow. Life is good when there's peace and harmony at home.
Yesterday my world was dog piss and a car wreck. Which sets the bar pretty low for today to be a better day!
Head over for a contest on my site today - if you win, I can modify the Target gift certificate to something you can use in Norway. See, I'm flexible that way. http://thecolorofhome.blogspot.com
Cheers and thanks for allowing me a glimpse of your wonderful day and for making me smile.

That's a good day in any one's book. Isn't it weird how we've completely given up the expectation of mail being anything other than bills and junk? Cards!??? A thing of the past!
Wow! Sounds like a fabulous day and a wonderful way to start a great weekend!
I have a little something for you at my blog. :)
Sounds like a great day! Enjoy your free weekend!!
Sounds like a great way to start off a weekend. I love getting something unexpected in the mail.
Brownies + Family + Snow = Fun, Fun, Fun.
I hope the rest of your weekend goes just as well.
Great post! I think it's so cool too that your kids have "ski day" at school. We spent our recess on winter days inside playing records and board games when I was a kid.
What a lovely, lovely day. Hope your weekend is sublime, having no commitments sounds about perfect right now.
Good for you for letting Christopher make brownies. I think I am gonna let Ryley make cupcakes today, he has been asking for a week;) Maybe we should call Grandma to come over for coffee too, she would be overjoyed.
Commitment free and happy mail...off to a good start! Enjoy!
I cherish hand written notes or cards.I usually save them. There is something special about getting a personal card or note in the mail, especially in these days of so much junk mail!
Warms brownies sure do sound nice!
Hope you and your men have a wonderful weekend.
I love handwritten notes. You're right, they are so thoughtful. Brownies and coffee sound like the perfect way to end a day of skiing. Have a wonderful weekend.
It all sounds lovely and I hope the weekend ends on just such a happy note.
Have a great weekend Heidi!
one of the things i like best about you is your wholehearted embracing of life.
I love it when a weekend comes along and we have nothing to do but just hang out together!
We will definitely be doing that on Sunday while watching the Superbowl. Hallie and John will be here and my parents will stop by. I just love a house full of family and friends!
Enjoy the weekend!

Aren't handwritten notes the best? Sounds like you had a great day. Happy weekend!
A handwritten, for-no-reason card is a wonderful thing. Enjoy your free weekend.
What a great post Heidi!!! I loved it. And, that sounds like a pretty perfect Friday to me too - WOW! I so wish I was living your life sometimes. Have a great weekend - enjoy every single minute of it.

I am a "card person" too--both to get, and especially to give. How nice that your friend perked up your day for you; aren't card-loving friends just great? And your boys...awww, Heidi, it just does not get any better than that. I felt good just reading about it. Have a wonderful, low-key weekend, my friend!
What a perfect day!
We too are having a snow storm day, I want nothing more than to have brownies with my coffee, but I settled for a couple of mini chocolate eggs. I tried to coax J into some hot chocolate but he would have nothing of it.
And I love that you got some mail today, it is such a treat to get something different in the mailbox these days.
I hope tomorrow brings you something really fun.
sounds wonderful, indeed.
What a lovely day!!
I used to send many many handwritten cards..but then I had a baby. My time seems to be occupied differently lately...! I'll work it all out eventually. You know, when he's in high school. :)
I'm jealous of the brownies...mmmmmmm....
I posted something for you at my place... ;)
MY friend in Texas always write me real letters thru the "snail mail" as we call it. They always make my day.
Sounds so wonderful! Enjoy your weekend!
And I looooove your new banner. Just perfect.
Have a perfect, relaxing weekend.
What a wonderful day.
Enjoy the weekend.
Aww, the brownies and cocoa sound devine. Embracing the weather is what I wish I could do.
You are a great motivator!
Siigghh.... what a nice day and a wonderful sounding weekend! Enjoy!
Wonderful!
Free weekends are like a gift. They almost never happen but when they do...just enjoy.
Sounds wonderful all round!
Some days everything just falls perfectly into place :)
Enjoy your weekend!
Sounds like a wonderful weekend! Enjoy!

What a lovely Friday! Enjoy your weekend.
what a wonderful day!
Sometimes it is so good to have a weekend clear of appointments.
I'm now experiencing a desperate craving for brownies. Yum. My favorite form of chocolate.
Aww - real mail, brownies with the grandparents and a commitment-free weekend! Sounds like great "parts", Heidi!
